We present Cryoscope, a new 50 deg2 field-of-view, 1.2 m aperture, Kdark survey telescope to be located at Dome C, Antarctica. Cryoscope has an innovative optical–thermal design wherein the entire telescope is cryogenically cooled. Cryoscope also explores new detector technology to cost-effectively tile the full focal plane. Leveraging the dark Antarctic sky and minimizing telescope thermal emission, Cryoscope achieves unprecedented deep, wide, fast, and red observations, matching and exceeding volumetric survey speeds from the Ultraviolet Explorer, Vera Rubin Observatory, Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, SPHEREx, and NEO Surveyor. By providing coverage beyond wavelengths of 2 μm, we aim to create the most comprehensive dynamic movie of the most obscured reaches of the Universe. Cryoscope will be a dedicated discovery engine for electromagnetic emission from coalescing compact binaries, Earth-like exoplanets orbiting cold stars, and multiple facets of time-domain, stellar, and solar system science. In this paper, we describe the scientific drivers and technical innovations for this new discovery engine operating in the Kdark passband, why we choose to deploy it in Antarctica, and the status of a fifth-scale prototype designed as a Pathfinder to retire technological risks prior to full-scale implementation. We plan to deploy the Cryoscope Pathfinder to Dome C in 2026 December and the full-scale telescope by 2030.

Phase I consisted of single-mode fiber injection/extraction units used in conjunction with an H band pyramid wavefront sensor. Using single-mode fibers provides a gain in stellar rejection, a substantial reduction in sky background, and a stable, well-defined line-spread function on the spectrograph. In 2022, Phase II brought a 1000-actuator deformable mirror, beam-shaping optics, a vortex fiber nulling mode, and more. In this paper we present the results of the latest upgrades to the KPIC instrument. Among these upgrades, a second fiber bundle with related injection/extraction optics and new dichroics were added to extend KPIC's science capabilities to y through H band, and to provide access to laser frequency combs for spectral calibration from y-K. Additionally, the charge 2 vortex mask for fiber nulling was supplemented with a charge 1 mask to enable spectroscopy of low mass companions at very small angular separations. Other upgrades included an atmospheric dispersion corrector, a new calibration source switching system, and an optimized tip/tilt control system. M. Keck Observatory (WMKO) telescopes have continued to maximize their scientific impact to produce transformative discoveries that keep the U.S. observing community on the frontiers of astronomical research. Upgraded capabilities and new instrumentation are provided though collaborative partnerships primarily with the Caltech and University of California instrument development teams and through additional collaborations with the University of Notre Dame, the University of Hawaii, Swinburne University of Technology, industry, and other organizations. This paper summarizes the status and performance of observatory infrastructure projects, technology upgrades, and new additions to the suite of observatory instrumentation. We also provide a status of instrumentation projects in early and advanced stages of development that will achieve the goals and objectives summarized in the 2023 Keck Observatory strategic plan. The original LRIS continues to be used an average of more than 100 nights per year while maintaining a remarkably high publication rate, neither of which shows any signs of diminishing with time. Nevertheless, LRIS was commissioned \u223c30 years ago, and its opto-mechanical design and aging mechanisms preclude further improvements in its stability and reliability. This paper presents the conceptual design of a state-of-the-art instrument combining the core capabilities and scientific versatility of LRIS with substantial improvements in throughput, image quality, stability, and on-sky efficiency. In this paper, we present a concept for a versatile imaging spectrometer with an on-axis field of view of 10\u2032\u00d75\u2032 in two simultaneous wavelength channels that together cover 3100 \u2013 10,300\u00c5 at R\u223c1500 in a single exposure, with a multiplex factor of 70. The optical design delivers total spectroscopic throughput close to 60%, a gain over the current LRIS of 30-100%. We present the preliminary design for the configurable slit unit (CSU) for TMT's Wide Field Optical Spectrometer (WFOS). The design consists of 96 bar pairs that can create an arbitrary pattern of focal plane slits. The large number of motorized mechanisms to drive the bars into position requires a high reliance on off the shelf components to reduce cost and design effort. A prototype was completed that shows the selected components will likely meet requirements. The current design nearing completion as WFOS ramps into a preliminary design review in 2025.
